Farm Eggs (mixed size)
What sets our eggs apart goes beyond just the idyllic setting. Our commitment to ethical farming practices ensures that our hens are treated with the utmost care and respect. They enjoy a diet rich in natural vegetation and insects, resulting in eggs that are packed with essential nutrients. Studies have shown that pasture-raised eggs contain higher levels of essential nutrients such as vitamins A, E, and D, as well as omega-3 fatty acids (resulting in a more optimal omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids ratio than conventional eggs).
Pasture-raised is different from free range. Eggs can be labelled ‘free range’ if a flock of 40 chickens has ‘access to’ at least 8 square meters of outdoor space with 50% living vegetation. That’s not as free as we want our chickens to be, and that’s why we raise them on pasture to fully allow them to engage in their natural behaviour to forage, scratch and explore while being guarded by roosters who keep a watchful eye over their flock, supported by our livestock guardian in training Lenna.
Our farming methods promote biodiversity and soil health, contributing to a more sustainable food system. As a local supplier, serving Swellendam and surrounds we also aim to minimise transport, serving the freshest eggs possible.
But at the end of the day, you want to eat eggs that taste great. As soon as you crack the egg you notice the difference. The rich, dark golden yolks and firm, flavourful whites are a testament to the quality of life our hens enjoy.
Mixed sized eggs, which means some are larger and some smaller, but the average weight per box equals Large (>51g).
